Completed in May 2008, this new facility represents the next generation of ‘clean’ and sustainable buildings developed to process and manage waste disposal demands of North Down Borough Council long into the future.
The first of it’s type in Ireland the facility is designed to be, to all extents and purposes, self-sustaining in its day-to-day life.
This is realised by the use of solar thermal panels for heating, 900m2 of photovoltaic surface generating electricity for all lighting, an 850KW wind turbine in the near by Balloo Wood for general power at large to all plant and a 72,000 litre rain water harvesting tank for wash down facilities.
